What do shock absorbers do ?

Essentially, shock absorbers do two things. Apart from controlling the movement of springs and suspension, shock absorbers also keep your tyres in contact with the ground at all times. At rest or in motion, the bottom surface of your tyres is the only part of your vehicle in contact with the road. Any time that a tyre’s contact with the ground is broken or reduced, your ability to drive, steer and brake is severely compromised.

Can Shock Absorbers Be Repaired?

Although very rare, some shock absorbers (these are mostly particular solutions produced in a limited quantity) can be designed to be disassembled so that their inner parts can be replaced. However, for vehicles used on highways, products are not designed to be disassembled. This is because the internal parts of shock absorbers are closed under a specific load and in very clean environments. If a shock absorber is opened by cutting, it cannot be used again. Cutting and re-welding the shock absorbers, especially the front ones (carrying the vehicle load), jeopardizes the drivers’ life as well as the lives of those around him/her.
