Brake pads are friction material components that use the mechanical power to slow down or even stop the rotation of the wheel. There are mainly two categories of brake pads: disc brake pads and drum brake pads.
Disc brake pads are attached on the surface of the brake rotor or disc, while the drum brake pads adhere to the inside face of the brake drum. The friction modifier to manufacture brake pads includes sintered metal, fiber, rubber, ceramics and their composites. Thus, the brake pads engender enough frictional resistance and friction coefficient while keeping the unscathed condition of the metal face.
The backing plate which serves as the support of the friction pad can be made of steel material. Typically, it contains guide pins and clips to work in accordance with the caliper bracket. When installation is complete, the brake caliper bracket will press the pads onto the spinning rotor or drum face to activate the braking.
Brake pads experience a constant use and hence diminishes as time passes. When the thickness is decreased to below 5 mm, it is a must to replace them. Furthermore, a set of brakes for each wheel should be changed due to the variance of wear across different pads. Replacement of brake pads is a common brake maintenance job.

Most cars, trucks, SUVs, motorcycles, and other road-going vehicles use disk brake pads. These pads are mounted onto the caliper bracket and squeezed onto the rotating brake disc or rotor by the caliper piston. This creates friction and thus slows the vehicle down.
Trailers are typically equipped with drum brakes, which use brake shoes or pads pressed against the internal surface of a drum brake assembly. This helps to slow down the wheels of a trailer being towed.
Due to their high performance requirements, airport vehicles often use aviation-grade brake pads. These pads are designed to withstand harsh weather conditions and handle heavy loads, thereby helping to safely stop large vehicles.
When it comes to heavy equipment such as construction and mining equipment, trucks, and bulldozers, heavy-duty brake pads for drum or disc brakes are needed. This is because they have to be powerful enough to stop large machines hauling massive payloads.
Most bicycles make use of simple rim brakes, where pad blocks contact the wheel rim. Alternatively, bicycles can have hub brakes where pads squeeze a drum in order to slow the bicycle in a lightweight package.
Elevators use special brake pads that grip elevator guide rails or grips when needed. This can be in the case of emergency stops or if power is lost and the elevator must stay stationary.
Train brake systems use tread brakes and disc brakes to effectively slow down very long and heavy passenger and freight trains.
Our Auto Brake Pads are packaged in high-quality cardboard boxes, which are designed to protect the product from damage during transportation. The box is sealed with plastic wrap for additional protection.
