In some vehicles, the fuel pump is housed within a fuel pump module. The module contains additional components such as the fuel level sensor and fuel gauge sender, which provide information about fuel levels to the vehicle's instrumentation.
Many fuel pumps incorporate a built-in fuel pressure regulator. The regulator helps maintain a consistent fuel pressure within the fuel delivery system by regulating the flow of fuel returning to the tank. This ensures that the engine receives a steady supply of fuel at the required pressure for proper combustion.
Electric fuel pumps are typically controlled by a fuel pump relay. The relay is responsible for activating the fuel pump when the engine is running and deactivating it during engine shutdown or in case of an emergency. This helps prevent fuel from continuing to flow in the event of an accident or other emergency situation.
Some modern fuel pump systems use solenoid valves to control the flow of fuel. These valves are electronically controlled and can open and close rapidly to adjust the flow of fuel. They are often used in high-performance vehicles to allow for precise fuel delivery and greater control over the engine's performance.
